#2 Things Are Changing

Hello everyone!

Today I want to talk about how pregnancy is changing things in my life.

A lot of women enjoy pregnancy and some dread it. I’m actually in between and because of this, there are a lot of things in my life that are changing.

Let me give you a little bit of perspective on my pregnancy experience so far.

The first month of my pregnancy I felt okay. I didn’t even know I was already pregnant at that time. My energy levels were normal and life seemed okay. Days after knowing we’re pregnant, that’s the time things changed. I can no longer stand when we cook with ‘hing’, garlic, onion and tomatoes. Even smelling just a little bit of my Indian mother-in-law’s cooking I felt dizzy. I can no longer swallow Indian food. My taste buds just want simple food. I even attempted to eat biryani and I puked all of it.

This is the reason why in my first trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy), I always eat rice with soup, milk and biscuits, and stir fried spinach.

During these times also, I am mostly on the bed. I can sometimes cook for my husband (while wearing a mask), but sometimes I feel like collapsing. Most of the cooking, my husband does for me. I was just in our closed room or inside our blankets to not smell anything from outside. My husband even eats in the living room sometimes because I felt dizzy smelling his food. It was a trying time in my life.

Two or 3 weeks after my second trimester my taste buds were back! I can finally eat food from outside. I ate dosa and thali which I thankfully did not puke. Then slowly, everything is back to normal! I have some energy, I cook everyday with seldom a feeling of collapsing, and I slowly went back to eating Indian food. The only difference is my stomach is getting heavier and my husband and I felt our baby kick for the first time. I sometimes woke up from the tiny force of our baby kicking but it was not a huge problem. Actually, my second trimester was the best months of my pregnancy.

Then here comes my third trimester. I must say this is the most difficult months of my pregnancy. I am tired all the time, my stomach is getting really heavy, I get heartburn and constipation, it’s hard to find position to sleep at night, the force of our baby kicking is harder and painful, some areas of my body are getting darker and I have too much itching all over my body which doesn’t let me sleep. We went to our gynecologist for a solution but it did not help. When we finally went to a dermatologist, the medicines worked and I have less itching now than before. Still, I wake up to the feeling of itching (on other parts of my body now) and it’s no fun.

The only fun thing in my third trimester is looking at my belly while my baby kicks. Sometimes when I call our baby or poke my tummy, our baby moves and it makes me happy. Even though sometimes it hurts, looking at my tummy move is mesmerizing.

I must say I finally understand the difficulty of pregnancy. I know some women experience worse than others. I might be in the middle since I also get to experience some good and memorable things.

Aside from all the changes I experience in my body, there are also mental changes. I always think of the baby now and I force myself to do things which will be good for the baby even though I feel like sleeping or resting instead. There were lots of things I sacrificed which I would not have done before pregnancy. This journey is definitely changing my life and perspective in life.

🌻 My favorite things this week:

🍐Fruits – There’s no pears in the Philippines that’s for sure. When my father-in-law gave me a pear just this week, I was obsessed! I love that it’s not that sweet and it’s crunchy like an apple. I’m definitely eating it every day now since it’s in season.

📚Books – I recently finished reading THE TEACHER by Freida McFadden and it was great! It was kind of okay in the first parts to the middle but at the end, it was mind-blowing! I did not expect the twists at the end and I love it. Definitely recommend it for those of you who like mystery/thriller.

🖊️ Note-taking – I’ve searched and used a lot of note taking apps. It’s like I have tried tons and all I want is just a simple user interface which syncs and organizes well. I used Apple Notes for so long but I cannot really access it on my android phone, only on my iPad which is not with me all the time. I went back to One Note at one point but their syncing just doesn’t work well. I’ve been using Google Keep for years and now I’m finally settling for it again. The good thing about this app is it syncs quickly with your phone app or the google keep website.
